Lai Cheng was the Executive Director of SMU Academy which conducts professional and continuing education training in specialised areas for working adults.

She is concurrently Fellow of the School of Social Sciences at Singapore Management University. Lai Cheng also has extensive experience in the Singapore Education System, having been the Principal of several Singapore institutions - including Raffles Institution, the oldest and most prestigious school in Singapore - and played key roles in corporate communications and curriculum planning and development at the Education Ministry’s headquarters. Beyond Singapore, Lai Cheng is an advisory board member of the African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg, the LEAF Foundation in Bratis
